BMC Software, Inc. develops software that provides system and service management solutions primarily for large enterprises in the United States and internationally. It operates in two segments, Enterprise Service Management (ESM) and Mainframe Service Management (MSM). The ESM segment offers service support that manages information technology (IT) functions and processes, such as the service desk, incident management, problem management, asset management, service level management, change management, and identity management; service assurance solutions enables event management, service impact management, capacity management, and end user experience management; service automation solutions manage the automation and execution of configuration changes, and IT process and task orchestration; and BMC Atrium, which provides a shared view of how IT supports business priorities, and centralized coordination and execution of IT processes.

The MSM segment provides mainframe data management solutions that ensure the availability and reliability of the business critical data and applications; infrastructure management, which include main view product line, that delivers business-centric systems management, intelligent optimization, and capacity management for an array of mainframe infrastructure components; and enterprise scheduling and output management solutions comprising Control-M product line, a set of features, which enable data centers to automate their complex workloads and critical business processes.

The company also offers consulting, implementation, integration, and educational services related to its software products. It serves manufacturers, telecommunications companies, financial service providers, educational institutions, retailers, distributors, hospitals, service providers, government agencies, and channel partners through sales force, resellers, distributors, and systems integrators. The company was founded in 1980 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. The stock is poised to move higher from here but needs to break above current resistance levels at $34.90. BMC Software ended the week trading at $34.65 up $1.52 or 4.59 percent on 13.9 million trading volume.
